Hi, I’m Mathias Östlund
.. but you might know me as Matt the Swede. I’m a pretty
simple guy, with just 3 goals in life;
See the world, and
Become the very best I can be
Currently based in Sweden, I spend most of my time chasing these goals and working a job I love – while also writing the occasional blog post about whatever topic happens to catch my attention that day.
A Little Backstory
Alright, so my story basically began way back in 2012, shortly after I graduated high school (well, Sweden’s kind-of-but-not-really equivalent to high school).
Up until then, I had lived my life by society’s default mode; go to school, get good grades, don’t cause too much of a ruckus and eat your vegetables. Basically, I stayed in line and I did what I was supposed to do.
I was shaping up to be a perfect, productive member of society.
And then 2012 happened, and I finally realized that I wanted more from life than to be a bleak copy of everyone else.
That’s when I made the decision to live my life the way I wanted to.
Simply put, I decided to throw my old life out the window, and go do something fun for once.
And so I withdrew my university application, broke up with my girlfriend, said good-bye to everyone I knew, booked a one-way ticket to the other side of the world and left my home with nothing but a backpack and the savings that my cautious lifestyle had accumulated.
You know, standard early-life crisis stuff.
Fast-forward a few years, and I now spend most of my time trying to enjoy life as much as I possibly can, while also trying to improve my life and myself to be the very best I can be. (The seeing-the-world part had to be put on ice for the time being, since I found a work opportunity that was simply too good to pass up).
