So far on this blog, I’ve written primarily about my current thoughts and goings-on, whatever those may be at the time. But for the most part, I haven’t shared much at all in terms of future plans.
But let’s change that, and take a look at what 2017 will bring in the life of Matt.
I guess you could consider this post my New Year’s resolutions of sorts – as much for my own benefit as anyone else’s.
2017 – The Year of Habits
In short, I have some big ass plans for 2017. To begin with, I hope to implement some major life changes in the areas of fitness, health, discipline and productivity, as well as drastically improving my learning process.
Basically, I plan to expand on my long-standing goals of becoming the best, most awesome version of myself I can possibly be – in every area of my life.
But more on that later. First, let’s take a look at the business end of 2017;
Launching a Complete Online Platform
That’s right; during 2017, this blog is going to transform into a full-blown online platform, expanding into areas like Instagram, Facebook, and even YouTube.
Well, several reasons; first off, to offer a better and more interactive experience for you, the reader. But mainly, I feel like this blog isn’t quite enough to fully document all the progress and experiments I have in mind for 2017 – hence the expansion into other media channels.
But I won’t get too much into that here – more information on the Online Platform will come along as the launch approaches.
Now let’s have a look at the personal side of 2017!
- Gain 5 kg of muscle mass (for a total body weight of 85 kg)
- Increase my overall strength by 20% (measured against current max performances)
- Increase speed and stamina by 10% (measured in time and distance on running tracks)
There are a lot of areas in my life where I’m not exactly where I want to be, and my current fitness level is no different. Sure, I might be in somewhat good shape, but I am far from the shape I could be in – if I just put in some effort and discipline.
Therefore, during 2017 I will focus on pushing myself to the physical limits, and see just how far I can go if I really try. (Obviously I won’t go too crazy and hit the gym for 5 hours a day – but a limit of 1 hour of exercise per day seems sustainable).
- Dropping my unhealthy eating habits
- Learning to cook and eat healthy meals on a regular basis
On a similar note, my general healthiness hasn’t exactly been the best lately. Between regular splurging in sweets, snacks, fast food and general debauchery, I’ve left little room for healthy eating. But, if I want to stand a chance of reaching my goals during the year, I have no choice but to turn to a healthier living.
This includes – besides the elimination of all sweets, snacks, fast foods and, well, tasty things in general – a decrease in carb consumption, an increase in fiber and protein, and a general increase in vegetables.
- Optimize my net work output
- Decrease my daily time-waste
One of the biggest problems I’m facing at the moment is that I just waste So. Much. Time. I have allowed myself to slack off lately, rarely producing as much value as I feel like I’m capable of.
Well, throughout 2017, I intend to implement some drastic changes in the way I spend the bulk of my time, and (hopefully) become more productive in the process.
- Achieve better control over my impulses by implementing Stoic philosophies
- Condition myself to perform for longer periods of time, without giving in to laziness or other weaknesses
As a lazy man, I’ve always had a problem with discipline. But, through a series of challenges (including cold showers, early mornings, and periodical abstinence from fun things), I hope to train my discipline to a whole new level during 2017.
- Improve my intake of information (primarily through learning speed reading)
- Read 52 non-fiction books
Of course, you can’t produce much value unless you continue to learn new things, and improving on the things you already know. Therefore, 2017 will also be spent learning how to learn.. if that makes sense.
Primarily, I will learn the art of speed reading in order to download more information faster into my mind through books and articles.
Here’s to an Awesome 2017!
As optimistic as I might be about 2017, I realize that things rarely work out exactly the way you plan them. Maybe I’ll only achieve half of what I set out to do. Maybe I’ll achieve twice as much.
But no matter the outcome, I feel like the important thing is that I work my hardest to continue on the path of becoming the very best I can be, in every aspect of my life.
Now let’s make room for the new year.
