Some of you have probably noticed the recent changes made to this website – both in its structure and in its message. These changes were made to help the blog better reflect my personal values and world-views.
The new core focus of this blog is to treat life like a game, and play it to the fullest. Because once you start viewing life as a game, you’ll become much more conscious about how you’re actually playing it – and there is just no way you’re going to want to keep playing as a boring background character of real life!
This is perhaps the most useful mindset I have come across, and I am convinced that treating your life as a video game completely changes the way you play it.
So why the game of life?
A big part of how you live your life is determined by your attitude towards it. And by treating life as if it were a video game, you’re all but guaranteed to change the way you play it.
In what game would you be content with playing as an unknown background character in some random, boring corner of the world? Doing the same thing over and over, staying in one location your entire life, just following a pre-programmed script – it just doesn’t sound very appealing.
And yet, this is exactly how most people are currently playing the game of life. They get up in the morning, ready to repeat the same script they follow every day; wake up, go to work, do meaningless chores, come home, eat dinner, watch TV, go to sleep, repeat.
This kind of life sounds pretty similar to the background characters you would run into in a video game.
Playing as the Hero
But by treating life as a game, there is no way you’re going to settle for this role of background character. You’re going to see just how much of life you’re wasting by living such a limited life, doing the same things over and over, and living your entire life in the small corner of the world in which you were born.
By viewing life as a game, you will start to see the possibility of playing as the hero.
You are basically given the choice of how you are going to play the game of life. And who would ever choose to be the background character if they had the option to play any way they wanted?
The only reason people are still living as background characters is because they’ve never even considered the option of playing as the hero of their own game.
But once you accept life for the game it is, you can start playing it the way you would play any game. Because what’s stopping you from developing your skills, living with purpose, chasing your goals, exploring the world, and becoming the very best you can be?
Yes, it will be more difficult, but the fact remains; you are entirely free to play as the hero of the game of life!
The only question is; how are you going to play?
